The new, more centrally located Rot Fai Market in the Ratchada neighborhood does not loose any of its night bazaar atmosphere, street food snacks or antique curios to its bigger sister. I went here on Thursday with a colleague where we found one of Bangkok best hotpots.
Atmosphere.
This night market is vibrant and has an arty vibe to it. In the long avenues, you can find many antiques, secondhand toys and curiosities. In between the center of the market are more typical market type products as clothes, shoes, handbags and smaller snack stalls. At the very end of the market is a row of bars with VW busses which are playing Thai and Western pop songs located. Right next to it is the food area with several small containers where you’ll find bars on top of it and restaurants inside the open container.
Price.
The price is extremely low – like street food.
Food.
The variety of food is just overwhelming – from market typical food like meat skewers to a great selection of seafood like crabs or mussels you’ll find anything your hungry stomach desires. My personal favorite is the hotpot you can find at the end of the market next to the bars. This food stall lets you choose from three different plates – two are barbecue and one is with a broth around the hotplate. This was one of the best hotpots I’ve tried so far in Bangkok.
Location.
You best reach the nightmarket with the MRT, just get out at the Cultural Centre and walk around or through the shopping mall, the night market is located right behind it. I can recommend to go on weekdays as it can become quite crowded during the weekend. Here is a link to the nightmarket on Google Maps: Ratchada Night Market.
