On our last night in Ho Chi Minh City we wanted to try authentic Vietnamese cuisine. We were recommended Mekong Kitchen as it was known for its high-quality Vietnamese dishes. Even though it was in walking distance and we had umbrellas we reached the restaurant almost completely wet as we had to run through the rain in the rainy season in June.
Atmosphere.
Sitting in the restaurant feels like sitting outside in a street. The restaurant is divided into two long dining rooms. Both rooms are open to each other. The walls look like brick walls with wooden windows and a big painting of fisher boats from a bird’s eye view. The chairs and tables are made of dark wood. Next to the entrance is a small tile pool with fish in eat. (Which are taken for dishes.)
Food.
The restaurant specializes in dishes of the South-Western region of Vietnam. It is characterized by a menu rich of the tastes of the Mekong River Delta. Most famous dishes are grilled sea bass with lotus leaves, gourami with tamarind sauce, smoked hay & chicken in a clay jar, seafood & rambutan salad, steamed snails, stuffed prawn fried tiny river-shrimp cake, and baked beef chili leaves in bamboo tubes.
Price.
Prices for the food range between 100.000 – 200.000 VND.
Location.
The restaurant is located in District 1 on Nguyễn Thái Bình road. Here is a link to the restaurant on Google Maps.
