For my farewell dinner with friends we decided to go to the ISAO Fusion Japanese Sushi Bar. This is a very popular and extremely creative sushi restaurant. The expectations were very high going there, and I must say we were not let down.
Atmosphere.
The restaurant is so popular, that you need to expect to cue. We waited for about 30 min before we got a table. The restaurant has tables on two floors. On the ground floor, the food is being prepared behind the long bar on the right side and tables are arranged mostly on the left side. The dark wood and indirect lighting creates a cozy and comfortable atmosphere even with the many people inside the restaurant. ISAO offers more seating on the first floor.
Food.
The restaurant offers a huge variety of sushi rolls, maki, sushi sandwichs, and side dishes like Edamame. One of ISAO’S signature rolls is called the Jackie, it looks like a caterpillar with a face. It is filled with tempura, flying fish roe, avocado and wrapped with rice, seaweed and a layer of shrimp. This role was delicious. My personal favorite was a roll named Crunchy. This sushi rice roll is crumbed with tempura flake deep-fried and stuffed with spicy salmon topped with teriyaki sauce. The crunchy fried outside combined with the soft salmon inside was delightful.
Price.
The prices are mid ranged, simple rolls are around 200 Baht and more complex rolls around 300- 400 Baht. You will probably need to get 2-3 dishes per person.
Location.
ISAO is located near the BTS station Phrom Phong on Sukhumvit Soi 31. Walking down the street you’ll find the restaurant about 150m down on the left hand side. Find here a link to the restaurant on Google Maps.
More information about ISAO you’ll find on the restaurants website.
Last visit of the restaurant was in June, 2019 .
