Chef Martin Blunos, previously owner of Michelin star restaurants in England, decided to open a more casual restaurant in a playful atmosphere in Bangkok. It is on the 14th floor of the Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn Bangkok. The food is a variety of international comfort food created in a new and personal way.
On the search for another good restaurant to try in Bangkok on a Saturday night we got this restaurant recommended from our expat community. As the reviews were pretty good, we decided to give it a try and were not disappointed.
Atmosphere.
The restaurants ambience is quite casual. Arriving in the 17th floor in the Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn Bangkok you’ll notice the pool area to the right and the restaurant to the left. The restaurant is completely in different dark colors of brown from the arched sealing to the tables and chairs creating a cozy and casual atmosphere. The half open kitchen on the left side is lighter in a beige color. Very nice is the open window front giving a great view on Bangkok’s skyscrapers. Seating is mostly inside, however, a couple of tables are outside next to the pool. As the weather was not too humid on the day of our visit, we decided to sit outside.
Food.
The food is a variety of different well-known international comfort food, put together by chef Martin Blunos in his personal way.
For starts we had the lobster meat hot dog, called lobster roll. The dish is made of half a Canadian lobster combined with orange rind and served in a soft garlic, buttery roll with an orange mayonnaise dip. It tastes very refreshing with the orange and brings out the lobster flavor very well.
As main dishes we tried the Peking duck Pizza and lamb shoulder. The pizza is topped with crispy duck skin and hoisin sauce, shredded onion and cucumber. The combination of both texture and taste is a great combination. The brackish tasting duck skin is well balanced with the more subtle taste of the cucumber.
The lamb shoulder was my personal highlight, the meat was very tender and combined with the potatoes and garlic sauce so delicious. It is ¼ of a lamb shoulder that is cooked long and slow on the bone. It is served with garlic, lemon, rosemary and young potatoes.
For dessert we tasted the Milkberry Puff. It consists of rich cream of Chitralada cream milk tablets sweets, crispy puff pastry and tangy raspberry sauce. I must say this dish underwhelmed me. The tablets were too sweet, the puff pastry tasteless and the raspberry too sour. Not my cup of tea.
Price.
The restaurant is little pricier, the lobster roll is 550 Baht, Peking duck Pizza 570 Baht, lamb shoulder to pull 900 Baht and the dessert was 280 Baht.
Location.
As mentioned, the restaurant is located in the Eastin Grand Hotel Sathorn. The Hotel is located right next to the BTS station Surasak. Find here a link to the restaurant on Google Maps.
